* Uzbekistan Joins CIS Free Trade Zone
 
Uzbekistan has ratified a treaty which makes Uzbekistan the ninth member of the free trade area of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
 
Aside from Uzbekistan, the free trade agreement (FTA) includes Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Tajikistan. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have signed but not yet ratified the agreement.

* Algeria Delays Implementation of FTA with EU
 
Algeria has successfully asked for more time to fully lift tariff restrictions with the European Union (EU) under the new Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which entered into force on September 1, 2012.
 
Now, the EU-Algeria free trade agreement should be fully phased-in by 2020, and not by 2017.

Japan and Turkey Initiate Talks on FTA

21 July 2012,  Tokyo
 
After the meeting of the Turkish Economy Minister and the Japanese Foreign Minister and its Economy, Trade and Industry Minister, both countries expressed their desire to initiate talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) as soon as possible and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on setting up a framework for economic cooperation.
